Confuse the speech

Confuse the speech of my enemies, O Lord! I see violence and riots in the city. Ps 55:9

How often do you use the phrase, 'no, wait, let me put it differently', even when you speak your mother tongue? That is the complexity God brought into language! Maybe, David is asking God to confuse the speech of his enemies recollecting the 'Babel event' in Genesis 11 (Ps 55:9).

There was just one language in the beginning (Gen 11:1). God confused their language when man had wrong motives (11:7).

But, God loves everything that He created including languages. He even gives the gift of speaking in different languages (1 Cor 12:28) and the gift of interpretation (12:10). And He is also going to bring to heaven representatives from each language on earth (Rev 7:9).

Around 7,000 languages are spoken in the world; no one can count the exact number, as each individual adopts his own way of speaking; languages keep changing; it is God's creativity!

Prayer: Lord, help me to use the gift of language you have given me, with the right intentions. Amen
