Joy for the godly

B. A. Manakala

But let the godly rejoice. Let them be glad in God’s presence. Let them be filled with joy. (Ps 68:3 nlt)

Some time ago I attended a Christian funeral service. The body was kept in front of the house. As usual the immediate family members sat very close to the body, with an eternal hope. Suddenly, I saw a Hindu lady from the neighbourhood, in her casual dress, rushed to the body and began to weep loudly.

The Psalmist repeats the theme joy thrice in this verse showing the importance of rejoicing (Ps. 68:3). Sometimes, we sink in the details of life, that we lose out on the bigger picture. There is a powerful link between ‘the godly’ and ‘joy’. Rejoicing is so natural for the godly; but the case of the ungodly is different. There are many things in the world that may give us joy; but they are temporal and cannot last long.

How would you focus on the eternity to rejoice always?

The joy of the godly is eternal; the worldly joy is momentary!

Prayer: Lord, give me the right perspective to rejoice always. Amen
