Refreshing rule
May the king’s rule be refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut grass, like the showers that water the earth. (Ps 72:6 nlt)
The farmers in India wait for rains at different times between the plowing of the land and the harvest. Sometimes they wait too long and are desperate for rain. Finally, when it rains they are relieved and grateful. The rain makes a big difference to their agriculture.
The Psalmist's prayer is for the king’s rule to be refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut grass, and like the showers that water the earth (Ps 72:6). God's promise to Abraham was that he will be a blessing to all families on earth (Gen 12:3). This is similar to what Jesus said about us being the 'salt of the earth' and 'light of the world'. Are we refreshing in our talk, deeds and rule?
When we are under the refreshing heavenly rule we refresh others.
Prayer: Lord, let me always be refreshing to everyone around me. Amen
