Sickness from Sin

B. A. Manakala

Because of Your anger, my whole body is sick; my health is broken because of my sins. Ps. 38:3

The Psalm may be written after David killed Uriah to marry his wife Bathsheba. A few verses in the psalm points to God's anger as the reason for his sickness (38:3a). But David also acknowledges here that it is his sin that makes him sick (38:3b-4).

Your own sin can make you sick. The guilt of David's sin was very heavy on him (verse 4). But such guilty consciousness and sickness are good as they lead to repentance. David had to face the consequences, but was forgiven.

Be cautious if you are not guilty about your sin.

Welcome any sickness that leads you to repentance,
and thereby closer to God.

Prayer:
Lord, please make me guilty of any sins in my life that I may repent. Amen
